Mmmmm it’s cherry season. I used to only grab a few cherries every season because it was so much prep work, but ever since Kelly got me a cherry pitter I’ve loved cherries again.
Sunday is made for sundaes. To top off this Sunday Sundae, I made some homemade cherry sauce. For the sauce, place 1 C of pitted cherries in a small sauce pan.
Add the zest and juice of half a lemon and 1/3 C of sugar.
Stir and heat over medium heat for 20-30 minutes or until you reach the desired “chunkiness” of your cherry sauce.
If you take it too far, just add a bit of simple syrup to loosen up the sauce.
Now take your warm cherry sauce and top a few scoops of dark chocolate ice cream and you’re set!
Enjoy!
